A Vox Pop Feature for World Sexual Purity Day (October 14)

Sexual purity is a value that many young people still hold, even in a world where discussions about relationships and sexuality are more open than ever. It involves making intentional choices about one’s body, emotions, and morals. This feature looks at what sexual purity means, why people choose it, and the challenges they face in today’s society.

Each year, the World Sexual Purity Day is being celebrated. People come together to share their views about Sexual Purity. Our teams went out to interview students about what they understand about sexual purity and their perspectives on how it is being viewed in the World of today.
“As a Christian, it is often preached in church that our body is the temple of God and we are to keep it holy, void of immorality. We are to maintain holiness by keeping ourselves sexually". (Olugbesan Precious. Law, 200 level).

“To understand sexual purity, we need to consider what purity entails. It means being clean, holy and being morally right. So, Sexual Purity means being clean and moral sexual whiles.” (Tunde Praise. Law, 200 level)

“A school like Thomas Adewumi University upholds sexual purity by making laws that kick against sexual immorality.” (Olugbesan Precious Law, 200 level)

“In this Gen Z generation where Sexual activeness is seen as the right and trending thing, handling pressures has to do with where the pressure is coming from; the friends, social media, and relationships you tend to involve yourself in. We youths tend not to handle pressures well; we often succumb to those pressures" (Tunde Praise. Law, 200 level)

“My moral principle on sexual purity is taken from the Bible. Since I believe that my body is the temple of God, I have to keep it Holy.” (Olugbesan Precious Law, 200 level).


"I think sexual purity is actually relevant and it should be hammered on the youths of these days who see modesty as being a S.U. You can still be modest and slay. Celebrities, even so-called Christians dress immorally on social media, thereby giving the youths wrong impressions. I feel sexual purity is very important to be sexually pure. Sexual Purity kicks against sexual misconduct, thereby putting us in the right way." Tunde Praise (Law, 200 level)

Thus, across campus voices, sexual purity emerges not as a rigid rule but as a personal compass—shaped by faith, culture, and modern pressures—reminding us that integrity of choice, respect for self, and open dialogue are the true pillars of purity.
