    Report on the Class Debate: “Social Media — A Tool or a Threat?”

    Introduction
    On Tuesday, 15th October 2025, our class (200 Level English Department) held a debate titled “Social Media — A Tool or a Threat?” at Lecture Hall 3. The activity was part of our Creative Writing and Speaking course.

    *Main Description*
    Two teams were formed: one supporting the idea that social media is a tool, and the other arguing that it is a threat. Each team had three speakers. They spoke on issues like online education, cyberbullying, misinformation, and mental health. The audience (our classmates) acted as judges and voted for the winning side.

    Observations
    We observed that both teams presented strong points. The “tool” side highlighted how social media helps with learning and business. The “threat” side pointed out the dangers of fake news and addiction. The debate helped everyone think critically and speak confidently.

    Conclusion & Recommendation
    The debate was both educational and fun. It improved our speaking and teamwork skills. We recommend more of such class activities to help students express their opinions and learn from one another.

    Report on Coursera Course Registration Activity

    Recently, our class was summoned by the Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Languages for an important academic activity. During the session, he instructed all students to register for three specific courses on Coursera: Introduction to Academic Writing, How to Read a Novel, and Writing in English at University.

    As a team, we followed the instructions and began the registration process. However, we faced some challenges, particularly with internet connectivity. While some of us successfully registered for one or more courses, others were unable to do so at the time. Despite these setbacks, the HOD encouraged those who had registered for at least one course to proceed and complete the remaining two, while advising those who had not registered at all to do so as soon as possible.

    One major obstacle we encountered was the course fee of $31. Since many of us could not afford the payment, we collectively applied for financial aid through the Coursera platform. This was done to enable all students to access the courses without financial burden.

  3. Comment: Final Team Report - Community Clean-Up & Recycling Drive

    We worked together to organize a Community Clean-Up and Recycling Drive around our school on October 10, 2025. Our goal was to make the environment cleaner and teach people about proper waste disposal. Each team member had a role: some led groups, some collected litter, and others managed recycling materials.

    We cleaned nearby streets, separated plastics, papers, and glass, and educated residents on how to recycle correctly. By the end, we had gathered about 120 kg of waste and ten bags of recyclables. The event was successful because everyone cooperated and learned the importance of environmental responsibility.

    Next time, we will plan earlier with the council to handle bulky waste more efficiently. Overall, we are proud of what we achieved together.

    Introduction

    On Tuesday, 15th October 2025, the (200 Level Languages Department) held a class debate titled “Social Media — A Tool or a Threat?” at Lecture Hall 3. The activity was part of our Creative Writing and Speaking course. The aim was to examine the influence of social media and to help students build confidence in public speaking, teamwork, and critical thinking. This report presents the main points of the debate and its overall impact.

    Body / Findings

    Students were grouped into two debating teams. One argued that social media is a tool, while the other argued it is a threat. Each team had three speakers who presented arguments supported with examples. Key issues discussed included online learning, cyberbullying, misinformation, mental health, digital business opportunities, and communication patterns.

    The judging was done by the rest of the class based on clarity, delivery, content, and how well each team defended their claims.

    The “tool” team emphasized the educational benefits, business growth, easy communication, and access to information.
